Henry C. Godt JR. Was Chemist At Monsanto

 
 

Henry C. Godt JR., a retired chemist at Monsanto Co., died of cancer Wednesday (Jan. 21, 1998) at St. Mary's Health Centre in Richmond Heights. He was 72 and lived in Des Peres. Mr. Godt was a chemist and information manager at Monsanto for 33 years.

He worked in laboratory research and prepared studies on chemical and environmental issues. After retiring in 1985, he was a consultant to the company.

He was a past chairman of the St. Louis chapter of the American Chemical Society. In 1993, he was honored by the group for distinguished service.

For many years, he played the saxophone and clarinet for several local bands, including the big-band Ambassadors of Swing, affiliated with the Lindbergh School District. He was a charter member of the Association for Instrumental Music for Kirkwood Schools and played in its community band. He was a deacon and a choir member at Kirkwood Baptist Church.

Mr. Godt was born and reared in Fort Smith, Ark. He served in the Army in World War II. After the war, he earned a doctorate in pharmaceutical chemistry from the University of Michigan.
