They only lived in Egernsund for two years, and then moved to Nordborg, where my I was born. They ran a hotel named Harmonium for one year.

Then they returned to the Egernsund area, where my father established a grocery store at Trappen, near Egernsund. In May 1902 my mother gave birth to a daughter who was christened Magdalene. She died in November 1902. My brother Heini was born on December 3rd 1903. In 1906 my mother gave birth to another daughter, named Magda. She died at aged 6 in 1912. Both girls died from the croup. The death of Magda was very hard on my father.

I do not know when the Ferry Inn and the activities belonging to it were sold. I think the Captain's widow might have sold when my father established his store, which he ran until the end of the First World War. My father was 54 years old at that time.

Later on, in the early 1930's, my brother Heini rented the small store attached to the Ferry Inn, the sa,e store our father had run 3 years earlier.

Today the store has been closed down. The premises are part of the present restaurant and bar at the Ferry Inn. The farm, bakery, brewery and finally the ferry have all been closed down.
