When you study his papers you can see that John E. Godt became a citizen of the United States on the 4th of November 1890.However, John E. Godt was neither 21 years old, nor had he been a resident for the required 5 years. It seems an uncle of his, named Anton Pruess, was willing to help him lie about this information. Throughout his life John E. Godt worked hard to improve his standing in life. Among his many jobs he worked as a gardener, a miner, a construction worker, a steam crane operator and an engineer. Jennie Tomena Wallin Godt died on the 7th of July 1936 and John E. Godt died on the 4th of April 1948 at the age of 77.Among their 9 children they had a son John Godt born on the 6th of November 1902 in Utica Illinois. It is with this John that my family line grows. It was after the Godt family moved to Dixon that John met Dorothy Christina Rizner. They were married on the 30th of December 1925 in Dixon. John Godt had served his country in the U.S. Army from the 2nd of September 1920 to the 5th of September 1923. By this time he was a machinist and returned to his work in the local wire mill.

John and Dorothy both worked in the wire mill many years, each over 25 years. They raised their family through the Great Depression of the 1930's and World War Two. They were good but firm parents and always held their door open to friends. And they were always willing to help their children. They had 4 sons and one daughter.

Glen Francis Godt was born on the 7th of December 1926. He married Dortha Noble Wright in 1945. Glen served in the Army and then went into farming. After raising 9 children they divorced. He later married Gladys Stine in 1970 and they now live in Canada.

Harry Eugene Godt, their second child, was born on the 28th of December 1927. While serving in the navy he married Francis Wilson in 1949. They have 2 children and live in Delaware.

The third child, and only daughter, was Arletta Lucille Godt born on the 20th of January 1929. She married Carl Rath in 1953 and they had 4 children and now live in Wisconsin.

The fourth child was Earl Wayne Godt, born on the 7th of September 1930. He also served in the navy, and at that time married Theresa Hymel in 1952. They have two boys and are now living in Georgia.

John and Dorothy's last child, John Grover Godt, was born on the 24th of May 1935. He married Joyce Faye Jenkins on the 9th of June 1956. They raised 4 children and now live in Dixon Illinois.

John and Dorothy retired to live their remaining years in Dixon Illinois. John died on the 26th of December 1972, and Dorothy died on the August 16, 1974. Both are missed ever so much.

The story goes on with I, John G. Godt, but I will leave it to my children and their children to continue this history. Hopefully one will write with greater skill and detail the story of the Godt family tree. Meanwhile I shall always enjoy learning more than I have written, and I leave this for those who come.

This is dedicated to John Daniel, the eldest child of John and Joyce.
